You can find so many various alternatives to decorate your house and various trends are similar that its difficult to categorize a living space or Design style at times. The style known as Art Deco started to appear about 1925 through the late 30’s and was a combination of numerous modern styles of the time. It is a very grand style that emphasized on energy and line. The lines used were intricate as opposed to the simple straight lines of a missionary or arts and crafts design. deco style is typified by solar images, chevrons, grill shapes and groups of lines. Typical materials used where often lacquer, aluminum, stainless steel and inlaid woods.
The style known as Southwest Decorating has been in use since the soutwest region began being settled but it didnt really become accepted in other areas until the early 1980’s. Traditional southwest Decorating style focuses on the southwest with Native American influences. Look for natural materials such as adobe, straw, wood, hand-woven tapestries and strong desert colors. The difference that helped the style gain a foothold was more playful motif’s like playful kokopelis, dancing iguanas and howling coyotes. The color scheme also changed to teal and aqua.
Mediterranean style is very popular today it comes from areas above of the Mediterranean Sea like Italy, Greece and Spain. Sometimes this style is called Spanish contemporary but they they are the same style. The walls in this style are usually textures and a is put on the colors that are rich and bold. Elaborate and furniture is common, and usually fairly short. You wont find a lot of sharp edgesmost pieces have bull nosed or bit rounded edges. Often mosaic tiles are chosen and bold rich colors popular choices, typically nature inspired colors are selected but turned up a notch in complexity.
Many more interior Design trends and new come into style frequently. Figuring our what trend fits you, start by looking in design websites to find rooms that you enjoy, then look for things in common in the spaces you favor. Is there a color palette that speak to you, do you favor wood, plastic or metal furniture? Do you prefer rich details and knickknacks or do you want minimal furnishings? Does linear furniture please you or soft couches that you can sit in? Begin organizing your tastes and then review interior decorating trends to see which ones use your preferances. Remember, the most pleasing design styles and furniture are ones that embody the style of the owner so dont feel restricted by definition, a home is decorated with love not style rules.
